In addition to workshops and other group learning opportunities, tools and publications, and management of special projects, Michigan Community Resources provides direct services to build the capacity of nonprofit and community-based organizations.
Since its founding in 1998, MCR has provided more than $16 million in free legal assistance to more than 1,200 nonprofits throughout Michigan. Each year, MCR serves 400 nonprofit organizations across all MCR programs. In turn, each organization serves countless others as they deliver on their missions.
Michigan Community Resources’ legal pro bono referral program connects nonprofit organizations serving low-income communities with volunteer attorneys to address their legal needs. MCR staff attorneys are also available by appointment to handle a number of legal issues in-house. MCR’s legal programs strengthen nonprofits by improving operations and projects, increasing efficiency, and reducing risk, allowing organizations to focus on their core mission.
Leaders of community-based organizations and other nonprofits can make appointments with MCR staff members for one-on-one consultations to address a variety of organizational needs including grant writing, project management, and more. Office Hours take place monthly at rotating locations across the city.
