Training & Workshops
Michigan Community Resources offers training and workshops to representatives of nonprofit organizations and community groups that provide current information, tools and resources, and tactics to build organizational capacity, complete projects and strengthen community connections.
MCR strives to provide meaningful legal education to organizations that serve low income communities. We host legal workshops throughout the year, often in conjunction with nonprofit partners, law firms, and sections of the State Bar of Michigan. These workshops are a great opportunity for nonprofits to learn about important legal issues from experts in the field. Topics have included real property, nonprofit advocacy, and FOIA. All workshops are geared toward nonprofit and community-based organizations and are open to the public. We sometimes offer companion workshops to our written legal guides and publications in many areas including employment law, nonprofit governance, land use, fundraising regulations, and crowdfunding.
Organizational Development Workshops
These workshops offer small nonprofit organizations, block clubs, and neighborhood organizations opportunities to learn more about fundraising, grant writing, community organizing, resident engagement, recruitment, and more.
E-Learning is an online interactive, multimedia teaching platform where organizations can take short, engaging courses on the legal aspects of community development. Topics include legal considerations impacting quality of life, like safety and land, use as well as considerations important to building strong and sustainable nonprofit organizations.
Our award-winning and nationally recognized Legal Compliance Review Clinic offers nonprofits a comprehensive legal and governance review to identify current and future legal concerns facing the organization. During the clinic, a team of volunteer attorneys completes a comprehensive analysis of participating nonprofits’ operations. Attorneys generate a report detailing actions steps and means of legal assistance that will allow the organization to meet its governance goals over a 12-month period.
